Whether you shoot things as they are found or build your own images, still-life photography can result in amazing images and test your skills to the limit.
Still-life photography may seem like a tough subject because you start off with a blank canvas rather then a full one, but this is what makes it challenging and rewarding - you are creating images from nothing.
Slemplicity is the key. Just work with one or two items and see what you can produce.
The background you use can make or break a great still-life image, so think about what you use. Natural and textured materials will enhance natural objects, while simple, plain backgrounds such as paper or cardboard are a better choice when you want your subject to take center stage.
Still Life - Objects
Don't be afraid to let some of the props in your still-life break out of the edges of the frame - the composition will be more interesting than if you arrange everything neatly in the center.
