U-Tapao Royal Thai Navy Airfield is a military airfield of the Royal Thai Navy located approximately 90 miles (140 km) southeast of Bangkok, near Sattahip on the Gulf of Siam. It is serves as the home of the Royal Thai Navy First Air Wing.
I was assigned to U-tapao two times from 1972-1974. First as a TDY from the 916th Air Refueling Squadron at Travis AFB, California from September 1972- February 1973. The second tour was PCS from April 1973-April 1974. Both tours were in support of the Young Tiger Tanker Force (1966–1975). During both tours I worked as a in-shop Jet Engine Mechanic on KC-135D model engines.
